Impakt Online presents: “It’s About Time”

Our friends at the Impakt festival in Utrecht sent us news of their new media project Impact Online. They host one of the most interesting media festivals in the EU.
Check it out.
About the project:
Impakt Online exhibits art projects designed for the Web. We invite and support artists to create new work.
In the “It’s About Time” program, Impakt Online invited artists to develop projects reflecting on new notions of time on the Internet. How long is something regarded ‘new’ online? When is information still fresh? How do trends develop on the Internet? How long do they last? And what influence does all this Web activity have on our sense of time? The It’s About Time program is curated by Sabine Niederer and features two new works.
“A Tag’s Life”, by George Holsheimer, Mirjam ter Linden, Daan Odijk, Patri Sadiqah, and Raoul Siepers.
The project “A Tag’s Life”, which has been especially developed for this program, depicts the life of tags by visualizing the rise and fall of tags at the photo sharing platform Flickr.
“World At Work”, by Theo Deutinger.
For Impakt Online, Theo Deutinger developed “World At Work”, a work which zooms out and introduces a new world clock representing the worldwide 9 to 5 economy real-time. This clock displays on every single moment which part of the world is working, is having leisure time, or is at sleep. It also shows where our neighboring planets are located at that time.
We also wish to point out the current developments regarding previous Impakt Online projects which can still be visited at our website. With “Misspelling Generator, a project developed for Impakt Online, Linda Hilfings was awarded ‘Best Young designer 2008’ at the International Design Biennale 2008 in St- Étienne. This work and another Impakt Online project, “Time Based Text” by Jaromil, are currently on show at the “Speaking Out Loud” exhibition in the Netherlands Media Art Institute.
