Thursday Jan 29th, 2009 Please join us for a reception as Permanent Collection artist John Sparagana signs his new book, a collaboration with critic Mieke Bal, Sleeping Beauty: A One-Artist Dictionary, published by University of Chicago Press.  Sparagana's works are produced by hand-distressing the pages of fashion magazines into cloth-like material in which only hazy traces of the original image are apparent, calling attention to our volatile relationships with advertising and media saturation.  Tonight, he will discuss the book, which features color images of his enigmatic artwork accompanied by twenty-six essays by Bal, one for each letter of the alphabet, that illuminate Sparagana's conceptual considerations from "Abstract" to "Zestful."
