TalkingPoint with Elvia Rodriguez-Ochoa

TalkingPoint with Elvia Rodriguez-Ochoa January 5, 2009 at 6-8pm Hyde Park Art Center Inspired by, among other developments, the Zapatista uprising of New Year's Day, 1994, three young artists in Pilsen came together in 1996 to found the independent exhibition space and publishing collective known as polvo. Join us for conversation with art worker Elvia Rodriguez-Ochoa as she gives us an overview of the history of polvo, shows some images of her art work and puppets, and takes this chance to talk about everything we are supposed to avoid in good company. Elvia Rodriguez Ochoa is a multi-disciplinary artist, educator and administrator, active in the community since 1990. She completed a B.A. in Fine Art from Trinity Christian College in 1992 and earned an M.A. in the Inter-Disciplinary Arts program at Columbia College in 2005. As an administrator and an artist, she has collaborated in the creation and maintenance of many non-profit organizations in Pilsen. She served as president in 1998 for Taller Mestizarte (Mixed Art Workshop), as an organizer for La Voz de Los de Abajo, and a board member for Calles y Suenos, and is one of the three founding members of polvo. TalkingPoint is a monthly discussion group for artists, and others who appreciate art. The program is generously sponsored by a donation from Anstiss and Ronald Krueck.  Beer and pizza provided by the Hyde Park Art Center, conversation provided by participants, like you.
