It's  a sign of the times now that city officials are targeting art spaces for revenue and fines. New City reported last week that local non profit art space, Green Lantern, was fined for not displaying a proper permit. Also disturbing is last Friday's visit to the AV Aerie by a dozen CPD officers and Department of Revenue officials who slapped  fines on the space for not having proper licensing. The Chicago art world ecology is in crisis for many reasons, but now we have to worry about the cops and licensing? It might be time to start thinking about running artists for political office. Maybe some advocates and sympathizers are needed in city government.
