Long ago in a world without internet, a few critical publications helped inspire and activate insurrection and counter cultural thinking here in the U.S. These publications provided real cultural coverage and analysis of how our lives were being consumed, co-opted and recombined by The Corporations.  The Baffler was one of them. Their critique was a beacon for clear thinking idealogues  trapped in the developing neoliberal economy, the internet bubbles and the Clinton/ Bush Dark Ages. But  then they stopped publishing, got teaching jobs, wrote books and/or started worked in the decaying mainstream media industry. The Baffler is now back throwing some heavy reinforcements into the culture wars that we have almost lost. We salute their decision to actually choose print as their medium of choice and wish them well. In these enervating times, their voice will be an antidote to the daily morass and decline of the mass media. Their scathing observations will help us all figure out how to overcome the mess age ahead. This new issue The Baffler features critical cultural analysis of our recent End Times, a re-visualization of the Internet, a theory re: our new Ruling Class, and dissections of popular conceptions of our recent history. It is beautifully designed, with great art contributions, color photography, and nice type. I picked up a copy at Quimby's. You should too.
