Remembering the Future: a group show by ACRE Opening Reception: Friday, June 18th - 8-11p The Hills Esthetic Center 128 N Campbell St The Hills is proud to showcase Remembering the Future, the first group show of ACRE's founding members. This exhibition includes new photographs, drawings, sculpture, moving image and sound along with finger food concocted by the ACRE residency chefs. In addition, a collectively built sculpture inspired by the Tower of Babel will be on view; this twelve foot tower is equal parts monumental sculpture and optimistic trash heap. Assembled from found detritus, personal items, texts, houseplants, and artistic flourish, the installation speaks to the practice of creating and operating an organization or collective by making use of what's at hand, incorporating diverse visions, tirelessly reaching toward constructing utopias, and willfully ignoring their improbability. The display of the founders’ artwork reveals how a community of dedicated working artists can extend their efforts towards a collective goal. Artists include: Caitlin Arnold Olivia Ciummo Kyle Cronan Melissa Damasauskus Rachel Ettling Aron Gent Henry James Glover John Paul Glover Emily Green Brieanne Hauger Jason Lazarus Greg Stimac Nicholas Wylie Join ACRE immediately following the reception for an after party hosted by Roxaboxen Exhibitions (2130 W 21st Street). The Dance MASS-ACRE will feature short sets by experimental musicians and end with DJs spinning dance favorites. ACRE (Artists’ Cooperative Residency and Exhibition) was founded in 2010 with the ambition to provide the arts community with an affordable, cooperative, and dialogue-oriented residency program. ACRE investigates and institutes models designed to help artists develop, present, and discuss their practices by providing forums for idea exchange, interdisciplinary collaboration, and experimental projects. The residency itself takes place in rural southwest Wisconsin and brings together artists from across disciplines and levels of experience to create a regenerative community of cultural producers. www.acreresidency.org The Hills Esthetic Center is an artist-run space located in the depths of Chicago’s Western Corridor. The space exists to promote a constant flux of challenging and undervalued contemporary artwork hosted in a non-commercial, artist-controlled environment. www.thehillsgallery.blogspot.com
