Noah Furman’s recent paintings deal with unitary forms—the letter, the hand, the brain—the body part truncated, amputated from the whole, the word’s mark separated from its meaning, mashed into a non-referent thing. They aspire to be primal and primary, aiming at the trembling question of what it means to look and understand.
