For those looking for something out of the ordinary, Maria’s (960 W. 31st) is hosting a three day celebration from Tues. Sept.27 through Thurs. Sept. 29 titled BITCHES BREW: THE ARTISTRY OF MILES DAVIS. This special series is in commemoration of the 20th year anniversary of Miles’ passing away on Sept. 28, 1991. We will pay humble tribute to Miles’ legacy, the wide expanse of his musical vision, the influences that drove him and those who collaborated with him over the many years. The series is broken into three separate periods of Miles’ amazing career. On Tuesday, opening the series of Miles’ formative years from the mid-40s through the 50s is Aaron Cohen of DownBeat magazine. Musical crate digger Richard Pierson will be showcasing the swinging sixties Wednesday night while John Corbett of Corbett Dempsey Gallery will be joined by artist Albert Oehlen for Miles’ seventies and eighties years on Thursday evening. We will be screening rare videos to compliment the music each evening. As always, the events are free with festivities kicking off at 9PM. We hope that you can join us.
